North East England

Over the past six years over £200m has been invested in developing North East England's world-leading expertise in emerging technologies for growing markets and in the commercial exploitation of those technologies.

Stunshot is proud to be an Ambassador for North East EnglandInvestment has focussed around a number of key sectors promoting innovation that will provide world-class facilities and new approaches to integrating business and universities. These areas of innovation include; Chemicals, Healthcare & Life Sciences, Automotive & Advanced Manufacturing, Energy & Low Carbon Technology and Digital Media & Animation.

Centres of Excellence facilities have been established in each area. The centres co-ordinate the commercial exploitation of technologies and new products, emerging from research activity. They are supported by access to funding designed to stimulate growth in our priority sectors and ensure business success.

The North East is well connected to Europe and beyond thanks to two international airports and its three main ports play a major part in making the region one of the UK's largest exporters to the European market and beyond.

County Durham

Home to NETPark and the research facilities of Durham University, County Durham is driving some of the UK's most ambitious projects in printable electronics, micro technology, photonics and biophysical sciences. The newly-built Printable Electronics Technology Centre (PETEC) is working with industry to prototype new types of silicone based electronic devices, and the North of England Stem Cell Institute (NESCI) is a major part of the region's Healthcare and Life Science sector.

Northumberland

Northumberland is regarded as one of the most beautiful regions of the UK and is home to a modern and diverse industrial base with companies including Clipper Windpower, Comseys, Aesica and Yanmar basing their UK operations here. Innovative solutions to the world's energy needs are being developed at the New and Renewable Energy Centre (NaREC) in Blyth, Northumberland, and concentrations of pharmaceutical and engineering companies are found around the Blyth Valley and Wansbeck.

Tyne & Wear

The region's biggest cluster of Healthcare and Life science organisations are based in the NewcastleGateshead and Sunderland conurbation, generating a turnover of more than £8 billion a year and employing 170,000 people. The International Centre for Life in Newcastle produces a thriving environment for stem cells and genetics research and the area is also home to Nissan's most productive manufacturing plant outside Asia, and the region's Centre of Excellence for Digital Innovation, in Sunderland.

Tees Valley

The region's chemicals industry is largely based in Tees Valley which is home to Wilton International, owned by Sembcorp Utilities (UK) and 58% of the UK's total petrochemical industry. The infrastructure in Tees Valley includes direct access to the UK's second busiest port (Teesport) and state of the art testing facilities at the region's centre for excellence in process industries, CPI. Tees Valley has strengths across a wide range of sectors and further industry clusters are in digital media and animation, with a history of games development stretching back more than 25 years.
